Kiss of a Thousand Years Past

A Vampire Poem by Kim Sanders

There he stood, a wonderful figure of a man:
Tall, dark and so very handsome
I wonder why I've never seen him before?
Or have I? He seems so familiar.
I've walked this path a thousand times…
He seems out of place… from another time…
Yet, he belongs here
Amidst the laughing children.
He stands in the shadows waiting and watching,
But for what? Me?
The thought makes me nervous…
I laugh to myself at the thought as I look around me.
I'm scared and excited.
His hand beckons me, almost pulling me to him
And I go…
His eyes never leaving mine, piercing my thoughts, my fantasies, my heart.
I hear nothing of the laughing children with bags full of candy
Nor mothers gossiping amongst themselves as they watch over their children
Yet, I know they are all around me.
I hear nothing but the song of his voice.
Time is standing still as I make my way to this man.
It's just he and I
Those eyes never leaving mine
His words touching me, caressing me, wrapping me up
They are inside of me, soothing me, warming me, seducing me…
Yet he has not spoken one word;
His eyes show his love for me
Begging me not to be afraid,
And I realize I'm not afraid
I've known him before
He has come to me often
And this time he has come to take me home eternally...
My heart races
And tears come to my eyes as I go to him
This love I feel threatens to overwhelm me
The night closes in as he takes me in his arms
His lips caress my neck, tasting me as if I am a long denied forbidden fruit
And I welcome the sting of his kiss
It sets my body on fire
It's liquid, and hot and full of life.
It's red, it's passion, It's love
And I immediately know this kiss
From hundreds, thousands of years before
It's familiar
I know it and I welcome it
He has finally come for me as he promised he would
Not the stranger in the shadows that no one else can see,
Not the monster one imagines on Halloween
But the love of my past
The love of my eternal life.
