Songs about Gold-Digging Vampires

Who sings songs about gold-digging vampires? Men. Heart-broken, used, torn apart. Spit-up and eaten-up by the frail, wanton, woman; men who didn't get what they bargained for from the woman.

When I began thinking about this issue, this rhythmic purging and statement of heartbroken use, it seemed to be all about the vamp -- she done them wrong. But then I did a bit more thought. Who is winning in this emotional tussle? The, usually but not always, male singer/songwriter is giving only one perspective. His. We do not ever hear the reasoning behind her behavior. Had she ever declared undying (and with vamps, that it really a serious statement) love? Had she promised to never leave his side? Had she promised to clean his house, do his dishes and laundry, prepare his meals, and do all the still generally expected (see TV adverts) stuff for him? Just who do these expectations violate?

Perhaps his expectations are out of line. But then the song comes out, and the female is immortalized as a bad-woman. Wicked. Evil. But is she making a dime out of this? No. The Singer/songwriter is.

So: take a look at his first entry.

Daryl Hall and John Oats: She'll only come out at night

The lean and hungry type

Nothing is new, I've seen her here before

Watching and waiting

Ooh, she's sittin' with you

but her eyes are on the door

So many have paid to see

What you think you're gettin' for free

The woman is wild, a she-cat

tamed by the purr of a Jaguar

Money's the matter

If you're in it for love

you ain't gonna get too far

(Oh-oh, here she comes)

Watch out boy she'll chew you up

(Oh-oh, here she comes)

She's a maneater

(Oh-oh, here she comes)

Watch out boy she'll chew you up

(Oh-oh, here she comes)

She's a maneater

I wouldn't if I were you

I know what she can do

She's deadly man, she could

really rip your world apart

Mind over matter

Ooh, the beauty is there

but a beast is in the heart

(Oh-oh, here she comes) Watch out boy she'll chew you up

(Oh-oh, here she comes) She's a maneater

(Oh-oh, here she comes) Watch out boy she'll chew you up
